Celebrating Pride Month with Colonel Bleep
Since 1970, June became the month to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community around the globe, as they continue to fight for civil rights and freedom just like people of color, women, people with disabilities, and other ethnic groups had for many years. On June 25, marks the celebration of the iconic rainbow flag that symbolizes the pride of LGBTQ+ since 1978. June 25 is also the day celebrating color television which is why we're displaying a special poster combining both holidays.
Based on vintage posters and advertisments for color TV, here is a joyful depiction of our modern Colonel Bleep displaying the 1957 predecessor on a stylish color TV set. Not only but we also have groovy, mid-century modern shapes and symbols displaying eight colors of the original 1978 Rainbow Pride Flag designed by the artist and activist Gilbert Baker.
While the flag has changed over the past few decades (up to becoming a more progressive and harmonious symbol for our community), we want to acknowledge the flag from back where it all began, along with its symbolic colors: hot pink for sex, red for life, orange for healing, yellow for sunlight, green for nature, turquoise for magic and the arts, indigo for serenity, and violet for spirit.
We hope you find this poster as welcoming for any Colonel Bleep fans and newcomers who are openly LGBTQ+, along with those who are still questioning themselves or unready to come out of the closest, even during some current troubling moments.
