Colonel Bleep comes to PeerTube
Recently, the indie animation era has earned a strong growth of popularity, specifically on YouTube. In some cases there have been some instant hits such as Glitch Productions's The Amazing Digital Circus (2023-), Iron Circus's Lackadaisy (2023-), and most recently, Kiana Khansmith's Pretty Pretty Please. I don't want to be a Magical Girl (2025). In others, there have been some promising works that don't get as much apprieciation like Olan Roger's Godspeed, Joshua and Ashely Palmer's Monkey Wrench (2023-), Zeddyzi's Ramshackle (2024-), and Mirandamation's Atlas and the Stars (2023-). Then there are the other indie animated works that earn almost no recognition such as Dúlamán Studio's Oribis (2024-) and Austin McConnell's The Sensational Catman (2024).
Since the summer of 2024, we had released our own test pilot for our Colonel Bleep remake titled Colonel Bleep and the Test Theme. Unfortunately, like some indie pilots, The Test Theme was not very successful as it had earned fewer than a thousand views before it was taken down. Therefore, just because some indie animated works may gain success and spark hope for a new era, doesn't mean it will apply to every indie animated work. In other words, it is clear that YouTube is simply not the suitable platform for creative works like it used to be (except for the popular few).
Having second thoughts, it is decided that future content regarding Uncharted Earth will be released on a more ethical and inclusive alternative: PeerTube. This also means that the pilot has also been transferred to PeerTube as well. For those who don't know PeerTube (intitially named Chocobozzz) is a decentralized video platform. Rather than being powered by a megacorporation or two (such as Google and Alphabet Inc. controlling YouTube), users are the ones who take control of PeerTube in a variety of subplatforms, which is known as peer-to-peer platforming. Of course, PeerTube still has some issues such as lack of monetizations for content creators and difficulties in trying to register (since there are many platforms to choose from when joining PeerTube). It is also not very popular, especially since there are very few indie animators that have posted their content there (primarily those that use open source 3D animation software Blender), but that doesn't mean PeerTube doesn't have potential to grow.
Considering that Uncharted Earth is moving to PeerTube, we're hoping that this will spark a new revolution, in which content creators and audiences do not always have to rely on mainstream platforms and can make a change by supporting more open source alternatives (such as donating money, posting and transferrirng their content their, spreading the word regarding the fediverse, etc.), especially indie animators. We will also be releasing episodes based on the 1957 predecessor every once in a while, since no one else has dared to release any classic Colonel Bleep cartoons in PeerTube. Eventually, users will be able to experience all forty-five surviving episodes of Colonel Bleep and we will be looking forward to release more episodes that still remain missing as of 2025. So be sure to check them out on its new channel, Colonel Bleep TV!
